Nyala, October 29 (Darfur24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have transferred dozens of military prisoners and civilian detainees to Nyala, South Darfur, following their takeover of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, according to multiple sources.

A military source within the RSF said that the Intelligence Service in Nyala received more than 83 detainees, including doctors, North Darfur government officials, and Sudanese army officers, as well as members of the joint force that had been supporting the army.

The source, who requested anonymity, identified some of the detainees as journalist Moamer Ibrahim, Minister of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Mohamed Abu Sitta, Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment Ahmed Baraka, Major General Bahloul, Major General Omda Taher, and Police Brigadier General Ahmed Shamshum, Director of the Anti-Smuggling Department in North Darfur, among others.

He added that RSF intelligence units have begun interrogating the detainees at their headquarters in the airport district and several other locations, ahead of transferring them to prisons and detention centers.

A source within the RSF-affiliated civilian administration in South Darfur also confirmed the arrival of several prisoners in Nyala on Monday. He said that some groups had contacted the state’s civil administration regarding the situation of journalist Moamer Ibrahim, who is reportedly being held at a military facility and is under investigation.

The RSF seized control of the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher after a nearly 18-month siege, marking the army’s last major defeat in Darfur. The paramilitary group had earlier captured military divisions and garrisons in West, South, East, and Central Darfur during 2023.
