Al Fasher, September 23 (Darfur 24)

Health officials in El Fasher, North Darfur, confirmed on Monday the first seven cases of cholera amid growing concerns of an outbreak.

A medical source at the Saudi Specialized Hospital for Women and Maternity told Darfur24 that the patients were placed in isolation, with no deaths reported so far.

He warned that the entire population of El Fasher is at risk due to the collapse of the health system and continuous artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has crippled basic services.

Another health official stated that the conflict has disrupted water and electricity supplies, forcing 95% of health facilities to shut down, with the remaining hospitals operating at partial capacity.

Residents reported on Sunday that all public and private water sources had been cut off, leaving families in increasingly dire conditions.

Since last August, RSF forces have advanced into several parts of El Fasher, including Abu Shouk camp. The city has been under a tight RSF siege since April last year, as the group attempts to seize the army’s last stronghold in Darfur.
