Port Sudan, September 20 (Darfur24)

The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has demanded that authorities revoke the decision suspending Lina Yaqoub, bureau chief of Al Arabiya and Al Hadath.

On Friday, the Ministry of Culture and Information suspended Yaqoub and withdrew her press accreditation, citing “national security” and “public interest.”

In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the syndicate condemned the move as a grave blow to press freedom and society’s right to information. It warned that invoking vague terms to justify restrictions on independent journalism undermines international standards.

The syndicate also noted that the decision coincided with a coordinated online campaign against Yaqoub, casting doubt on the authorities’ motives. It called on the government to guarantee journalists’ safety, end incitement, and uphold professional rights.

Since the war began, 31 journalists have been killed, more than 230 detained, and at least 550 violations documented, including harassment, persecution, and threats.
