The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Sunday that it had recorded 64 new cholera cases, including five deaths.
According to the General Department of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control in South Darfur State, the total number of cholera cases had risen to 4,898, with 251 deaths since the first case was reported on May 27.
In its latest update seen by Darfur24, the department said 13 of the new cases were reported in Atash displaced camp and in several neighborhoods of Nyala North locality, including Domaya, Airport, Al-Nahba, Al-Nasiriyah, Derej, and Al-Salam North.
Nyala South locality recorded 16 cases and two deaths in the neighborhoods of Karari, West Radio, Wadi East, Al Wahda South, and Al Sareif and Al Jeer (South and North). Balil locality reported eight cases and one death in Kalma and Balil camps.
Mershing locality reported three cases, while Ad Al-Fursan locality confirmed five cases and two deaths. Al-Salam locality recorded three cases, and Kass locality reported five. Nine new cases were also confirmed in the East Jebel Marra locality.
Health officials continue to warn that the outbreak poses a growing threat across displacement camps and residential neighborhoods, where poor sanitation and limited access to clean water are driving the spread of the disease.
