The Sudanese Red Crescent Society, South Darfur Branch, announced the dispatch of a response team to the town of Tarsin in Jebel Marra, Central Darfur State, to assess the landslide that struck the area last Sunday.

The society said in a statement on its Facebook page that the team includes the Director of the Food Security Department, a representative of the branch, and the directors of the Departments of Mortuary Management, First Aid and Risk Management, and Water and Environmental Sanitation.

According to a source within the society, the team is scheduled to arrive in the area within the coming hours in response to an urgent appeal submitted by national and international organizations and the Sudanese Agency for Relief and Humanitarian Operations.

The Tarsin area, in Central Jebel Marra locality, is experiencing critical humanitarian conditions following a landslide that left civilians dead and injured as a result of the torrential rains and floods that swept through the area, according to a statement issued by the civilian authority affiliated with the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nour.

Mujib Rahman Abdel Rahman, head of the civil administration affiliated with the Sudan Liberation Movement-Nur (SLM-AW), arrived in the area on Wednesday.

He stated in statements on the administration’s Facebook page that local rescue teams and emergency rooms are continuing their efforts to recover bodies and victims.
