Nyala, August 30(Darfur 24)

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Presidential Council of TASIS Alliance government and commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), said on Saturday that the government is working to achieve just unity across Sudan.

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), which includes the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), and armed, political, and civil society forces, formed a parallel government to the one under the authority of the army.

The President, Vice President, and members of the Presidential Council, including eight regional governors, were sworn in in Nyala, South Darfur, as part of what has been dubbed the “peace government.”

In a speech posted by the Presidential Council’s on X , Hemedti said, “We, in the peace government and the Sudan Founding Alliance, are working to achieve just unity across all Sudanese territory and implement decentralized governance that enables all peoples to manage the affairs of their regions and benefit fairly from their resources to develop their areas and provide essential services to their citizens.”

He considered the formation of the government a step toward implementing all agreed-upon tasks to achieve comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, end the long wars, and end the suffering of Sudanese people from displacement, refuge, famine, poverty, and deprivation.

He indicated that TASIS government is committed to the Founding Alliance’s covenants, including the constitution and the political charter, by ending totalitarianism and dictatorship and establishing a civil, democratic, secular state that allows for the peaceful transfer of power and prevents military interference in politics.

He pledged the government’s commitment to all human rights and public freedoms charters for all citizens and to establishing the rule of law, emphasizing the need to achieve historical justice and hold accountable those who have committed violations during Sudan’s seventy years of independence.

Hemeti announced the government’s readiness to cooperate with United Nations agencies and humanitarian organizations to deliver aid to all those in need, anywhere within Sudan.

He pledged to allow the passage of aid and protect convoys and workers delivering relief to all those in need.

He stated that the government is committed to all international conventions, the policy of good neighborliness, building relations with countries based on common interests, and achieving international peace and security.

Hemeti reiterated his own statements that the war was sparked by elements of the former regime.

He added, “I renew my call for a transparent international investigation to determine who planned, arranged, and ignited this war and caused the suffering of the Sudanese people.”

The conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces erupted on April 15, 2023, and all attempts to end it through peaceful means have failed, despite the fact that it has caused a widespread humanitarian crisis.
