Port Sudan, July 27(Darfur24)

The UN expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan, Radwan Nouisir, arrived in the eastern city of Port Sudan on Sunday to assess the human rights situation amid the ongoing war.

The representative of the National Human Rights Mechanism at the Sudan’s ministry of Justice, Buthaina Mohammed Al-Tayeb, and the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bilal Qasm Allah Al-Siddiq, received Radwan Nouisir at Port Sudan Airport.

Nouisir’s visit, the third of its kind since his appointment, will last five days, during which he will hold several meetings with government officials and citizens affected by the war.

The Human Rights Council stated that the purpose of Nouisir’s visit is to “continue to assess the human rights situation in the country in light of the ongoing conflict and engage with relevant stakeholders.”

It indicated that the expert will hold meetings in Port Sudan with authorities, UN agencies, other humanitarian partners, and representatives of civil society organizations. He will also engage with displaced communities to hear their testimonies directly. He explained that the results of this visit will contribute to the preparation of the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the human rights situation in Sudan, which will be presented to the Human Rights Council at its sixty-first session in March 2026.

Nouicer was appointed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as an expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan on December 16, 2022.
