Umm Dafuq, July 14(Darfur 24)
A Sudanese refugee was killed in a Sudanese refugee camp in Birao, Central African Republic (CAR).
There are fears that the ongoing violence between the Sudanese Ta’aisha and Kara tribes in the Central African Republic, which erupted last June, could spread to the refugee camps, as tensions persist in the border areas.
A Sudanese refugee in Birao camp told Darfur24 on Monday that Yaqoub Osman, a refugee from the Ta’aisha tribe, was brutally killed inside the camp on Sunday by a group of Kara tribesmen, while two others were seriously injured.
He indicated that a group armed with knives attacked a communications center run by the victim and demanded that he hand over his Starlink satellite internet device.
He added, “When Yaqoub Osman refused to hand over the device, the perpetrators beat him to death, while two others were seriously injured.”
He confirmed that the incident caused panic and fear among the refugees in the camp.
Since last June, the border area between Sudan and the CAR has witnessed security tensions that have led to the deaths of dozens of people, due to internecine violence between the Kara tribe in the Central African Republic and the Ta’aisha tribe residing in the Sudanese town of Um Dafuq.
More than 38,000 Sudanese have sought refuge in the Central African Republic. Of the 4.1 million people who have fled to neighboring countries since the war broke out, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
