Dabba , July 9(Darfur 24)

Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs)fleeing Darfur and Kordofan states are facing dire humanitarian conditions in the city of Dabba, Northern State.

This suffering includes shortages of food, drinking water, and shelter materials, despite the intervention of some national and international organizations to provide humanitarian support, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.

Al-Shafi’ Abdul Aziz, an IDP from El Fasher, told Darfur 24 that the city has received thousands of displaced families over the past six months, leading to overcrowding in shelters and surrounding areas.

He explained that conditions in these centers are extremely poor, despite the intervention of the World Food Programme, the Sudanese Red Crescent, and several national organizations that provided some aid.

He added, “Most of the displaced people have lost their possessions and do not have anything to help them meet the costs of living in the city, especially in light of the lack of job opportunities.”

For his part, Abdullah Al-Sheikh, an IDP from El Fasher, confirmed the urgent need for shelter materials, food, and drinking water.

He pointed out that most of the displaced families include women, children, and the elderly, which increases the level of suffering in the absence of sufficient financial support to cover living expenses.

Volunteer Sulafa Saleh explained to Darfur 24 that some charitable organizations have organized treatment days for the displaced. She noted that the number of daily arrivals to the city is increasing, ranging from 50 to 100 families, coming from El Fasher, Zamzam camp, and the city of Al-Maliha in North Darfur, and from Nahud and Al-Khawi in West Kordofan.

She reported that the city is home to thousands of displaced persons distributed across several centers, most notably the Coast and Desert Shelter Center, which houses more than 200 families; the Hosh Al-Jurm Center, which houses more than 150 families; the Truck Complex, which houses more than 600 families; the Hosh Mellit Center, which houses dozens of families; and a center in the Al-Afad area. Other displaced persons are also distributed across various areas of the locality, such as Al-Ghaba, Al-Tadamon, and Al-Multaqa.

She confirmed that the Sudanese Red Crescent Society has previously provided food rations and contributed to implementing urgent health interventions to support the displaced.
