The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Saturday the registration of 65 cholera cases in five days.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Ahmed Abdullah Mohammed, said in a press statement that the number of cholera cases in Nyala has risen to 65, including four deaths.

He noted that 49 cases have recovered and been released from the isolation center, while 12 cases remain in the center receiving treatment.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health called on international organizations, United Nations agencies, and national organizations to respond to the state’s call and intervene urgently to contain this epidemic and limit its spread.

The Director General of the General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, Abbas Hassan, stated that Nyala Teaching Hospital has been receiving increasing cases since last Tuesday. Following a rapid testing device conducted by Doctors Without Borders, the cases were confirmed to be cholera.

The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Thursday the registration of eight cases of cholera, including one death.

The cholera epidemic is spreading in several states, including North and East Darfur, Al-Jazeera, and Sennar. Omdurman in Khartoum State remains a hotspot for the disease, amid fears of a widespread outbreak.
