Nyala , May 12(Darfur 24)
The civil administration in South Darfur State has begun maintenance, cleaning, and rehabilitation of government buildings damaged by military clashes in Nyala.
A source in the civil administration told Darfur 24 that the maintenance and cleaning of government buildings and the reopening of the Nyala Grand Market aim to prepare the city to be the headquarters of the parallel government.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the maintenance and cleaning work included the headquarters of the state government secretariat, located east of the army command, where its exterior walls were painted, along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The headquarters of the commander of the 16th Infantry Division was also renovated.
One witness stated that the Al-Daman Hotel, which had been attacked earlier, also underwent maintenance and renovation work.
He pointed to the widespread presence of federal police vehicles in the city center, with the Rapid Support Forces’ combat vehicles and personnel absent.
The head of the civil administration in South Darfur, Youssef Idris, pledged to restore the city’s pre-war conditions, launching a campaign to eliminate negative phenomena and close some peripheral markets.
Youssef confirmed in previous statements that Nyala is preparing to host the parallel government expected to be announced in the coming period by the Founding Alliance, which includes the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, the Revolutionary Front, and political and civil leaders.
The Rapid Support Forces control South Darfur State, where they have formed a civilian authority to support them in managing the civilian and executive aspects.
