Thousands of Sudanese refugees in the Kerinek camp in eastern Chad are facing a severe food crisis after humanitarian aid was halted for the fourth consecutive month.

A Sudanese refugee told Darfur 24 that refugees in the Kerinek camp are living in harsh conditions due to the severe food shortage, with hunger threatening their lives.

He pointed out that the camp elders were not informed by organizations of the real reasons behind the suspension of aid.

He stressed the need to reconsider the decision to suspend aid provided by organizations and provide the necessary support to save lives.

He stated that refugees are awaiting a decision to resume humanitarian aid, to prevent the humanitarian crisis from worsening and leading to dire consequences for their lives.

794,000 Sudanese have sought refuge in Chad since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15, 2023, out of a total of 3.9 million people who have crossed the border into neighboring countries.
