September 9, Tandalti — Large quantities of copper are being smuggled to Chad through the border town of Tandalti in West Darfur state, sources told Darfur24. Two or three trucks pass through crossing on their way to the Chadian cities of Adre and Abeche.
Sources said that a kilo of smuggled copper is sold for 800 African francs, equivalent to 14,000 Sudanese pounds (USD $23).
In August, the security services affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in West Darfur State arrested members of a criminal network on board three cars loaded with copper.
Sudan has a sizable reserve of copper, particularly in the east and south-west of the country.
