Zalingi, August 8(Darfur24)
A medical source at Mukjar Rural Hospital in Central Darfur State announced the death of 5 children due to hunger, amid the spread of malnutrition among the displaced in the camps.

The medical source confirmed to “Darfur24” the registration of 450 cases of children, pregnant women and the elderly, suffering from severe malnutrition in the city of Mukjar in Central Darfur State.

The spread of malnutrition cases was attributed to the high prices of food, with the lack of sufficient humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the displaced and citizens affected by the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 15, 2023, which caused the failure of the last agricultural season.

For its part, the General Coordination of the Displaced and Refugee Camps in Darfur described the situation in the city of Mukjar as dire due to the spread of malnutrition cases in the region with the increase in displacement cases and the disruption of food supplies to relief organizations and health services.

The spokesman for the coordination, Adam Rijal, told Darfur 24 that the situation in Mukjar is similar to many areas affected by the war, where the displaced suffer from scarcity and high prices of food, with the spread of severe malnutrition. He stressed that the situation requires international organizations to quickly intervene to save the displaced from hunger, and for the international community to take preventive measures to limit the spread of famine and malnutrition and save the lives of civilians.
