Blue Nile, October 08 (Darfur24)

Fierce fighting erupted in the Um Darfa area of Wad Al-Mahi locality in Blue Nile State on Thursday following an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), military sources told Darfur24.

The sources said the Sudanese army was engaged in heavy clashes with the RSF and SPLM-N in the area.

Darfur24 could not independently verify the reported attack or determine the number of casualties on either side at the time of publication.

The clashes are part of a broader escalation in fighting along Blue Nile’s eastern axis since the beginning of the week, with battles also reported in Qaysan and Kurmuk.

The eastern axis lies near the Ethiopian border and includes areas of Wad Al-Mahi locality, about 50 kilometres from Damazin. It extends toward Al-Rusayris and its reservoir, including Minza, Jabal Nimr and Bashkarkad.

The escalation has also raised security concerns in Damazin, the state capital, which has come under repeated attacks targeting various locations and facilities.

Authorities said on October 3 that RSF drones had targeted the governor’s residence and civilian dignitaries in Damazin.
