El Geneina, October 01 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released a Sudanese employee of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) after nearly a year in detention in West Darfur State on allegations of spying for the Sudanese army and cooperating with hostile entities, informed sources told Darfur24.
The sources said the employee was arrested following an attack on the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the West Darfur State Government in El Geneina, which also targeted the head of the state’s civil administration, Tijani Al-Tahir Karshoum. Karshoum survived the attack, while three of his companions were killed.
According to the sources, the arrest was linked to an audio recording circulated on social media in which the employee discussed drone strikes targeting El Geneina, Sarf Omra, and Al-Zarq, as well as the reported injury of Karshoum.
The sources said the employee was questioned over allegations that he had passed information to senior Sudanese army commanders. They added that he had previously served in the Sudanese army before joining the humanitarian organization.
Darfur24 could not independently verify the allegations against the employee or the circumstances surrounding his release.
