The death toll from recent tribal clashes in Nyala, South Darfur, has risen to 10, with several others injured and homes burned and looted, according to local sources.
The clashes erupted last week between two tribal groups following a dispute on social media over the affiliation of one of the tribes’ clans.
Sources told Darfur24 that the Rapid Support Forces arrested about 30 people from both sides over their alleged involvement in the violence and transferred them to detention centers.
Eyewitnesses said tensions remained high in Nyala, with armed men deployed in some areas and residents leaving their homes for fear of renewed fighting. Local authorities are working to contain the situation.
The clashes are the first reported tribal fighting in Nyala in a long period. South Darfur has periodically witnessed tribal violence, often followed by reconciliation conferences that have failed to prevent renewed tensions.
