Four people, including three children, were killed and several others injured on Thursday in drone strikes in parts of Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum North, according to residents and sources. Military sources said air defenses intercepted drones targeting military positions.
Residents in Khartoum and Omdurman told Darfur24 they heard at least seven loud explosions, followed by plumes of smoke rising from several areas of the capital, as air defenses responded to the attacks.
Haitham Adam Al-Tahir, a resident of the Village area in Karari locality, said a drone strike killed a man and his three children and destroyed their home, along with three neighboring houses.
He said several other people were injured and taken to hospital, while additional homes sustained damage. Authorities arrived at the scene several hours after the strike, he added.
A military source told Darfur24 that a squadron of suicide drones launched a broad attack targeting the Sarkab military base north of Omdurman and the Al-Azirqab area north of Khartoum North, with more than seven drones involved.
The source said ground-based air defenses intercepted the attacking drones.
In Khartoum North, eyewitnesses reported seeing a drone flying over neighborhoods including North Khartoum and Al-Samrab, amid intermittent sounds of air-defense fire.
Darfur24 was unable to independently verify the reported number of deaths and injuries with medical sources. Authorities had also not issued an official statement on the attacks or their casualties by the time of publication.
Drone warfare has intensified across Sudan since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, with both warring parties using drones to target military positions and populated areas in several states.
