Thirteen civilians, including three Chadian nationals, were killed and dozens injured when a military drone strike targeted a fuel market in Adikonq, west of El Geneina in West Darfur State, near the border with Chad, local sources told Darfur24.
The sources said a drone operated by the Sudanese army fired a missile at the market, killing 13 people and injuring dozens, including children. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
Three of those killed were Chadian citizens working at the market, and their bodies were transferred to the neighboring Chadian town of Adré, the sources said.
Several bodies have yet to be identified after being badly burned in the fire that followed the strike, while searches for missing people continue.
The strike destroyed the fuel market, and the resulting fire spread to several civilian vehicles parked nearby.
The Adikonq market, located near the Chad border and the Adré crossing, has been repeatedly targeted in airstrikes in recent months, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties and the destruction of shops.
On March 12, 2026, a drone strike hit the same fuel market with four missiles, killing at least seven civilians and injuring others, according to Darfur24 sources. The attack was the second to target the area within a month and the third in four months.
Adikonq is an important economic and humanitarian hub because of its location near the Chad border and the Adré crossing. Its market serves as a key point for the movement and exchange of goods and fuel between communities on both sides of the border. At the same time, residents across large parts of western Darfur depend on it for food, fuel and other basic commodities.
