The Sudanese Founding Alliance (TASIS) on Thursday claimed to have captured Kurmuk in Blue Nile State, about 136 kilometers from Damazin, following fighting with the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied forces.
In a statement, the alliance said it had seized military positions, weapons and ammunition and inflicted losses on army forces, without providing casualty figures.
The claim came two days after TASIS forces announced the capture of Qaysan, about 170 kilometers southeast of Damazin, following battles with the army and its allies.
The fighting around Qaysan displaced about 2,500 people, according to the International Organization for Migration. Most fled to other areas within the locality, while some families crossed into Ethiopia.
Kurmuk and Qaysan are strategically located near the Ethiopian border and form an important corridor linking southeastern Sudan with neighbouring border areas.
Blue Nile State has recently witnessed intensified fighting involving the army, the Rapid Support Forces and allied groups, with control of several areas changing hands.
