Two Sudanese aid workers employed by foreign humanitarian organizations disappeared after entering the city of Adré in eastern Chad on official business.
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding their fate, while their families and relevant authorities continue their attempts to locate them.
According to sources who spoke to Darfur24, the vanished men are Hassab Al-Daim Hamed Al-Dawi, employed by Doctors of the World, and Bashir Musa Khater, who works for the French organization ELMA. The sources indicated that they had entered Chadian territory on official business associated with their respective organizations.
The sources added that Hassab Al-Daim was accompanying foreign staff members of Doctors of the World, while Bashir Musa disappeared under similar circumstances after arriving in the city of Adré.
Initial reports suggest that the disappearance of the two men coincided with the Chadian authorities’ closure of the Adre’ border crossing and the suspension of entry and exit. Another sources epeculated that one of the men may have been detained by Chadian authorities.
The next of kins of the two men told Darfur24 that they were traveling with foreign staff members via N’Djamena Airport when contact was lost. The relative confirmed that the family is in contact with the relevant authorities to determine their fate.
Darfur24 was unable to obtain a comment from the Chadian authorities or the two organizations concerned regarding the circumstances of the employees’ disappearance or the credibility of the news concerning their detention.
