The Emergency Lawyers group has accused the parties to the Sudan conflict of escalating air attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in North Kordofan State between July 24 and 26, saying the strikes killed dozens of civilians and hit water facilities, health centres, schools, and civilian vehicles.
In a statement, the group said a drone struck a water station in the village of Um Nabqa Mar in the Rahad al-Nuba area on July 24. The following day, it said, another drone targeted a civilian vehicle in the Amandarabah area, killing two people.
The group said that on July 26, a drone bombed a water tanker drawn by donkeys, as well as a health centre and a school in the village of Al-Sha’tout in the Jabra al-Sheikh area. It added that an Antonov aircraft also bombed a civilian fuel truck in Um Badr on the same day, killing dozens of civilians.
According to the statement, the attacks come amid intensified military operations in North Kordofan, where large areas remain under siege, humanitarian aid is limited, and basic services have largely collapsed. The group said attacks on water sources, civilian transport, and livestock have triggered new displacement, worsened the humanitarian crisis, and undermined livelihoods and food security.
The Emergency Lawyers group said targeting water facilities, health and education infrastructure, and civilian means of transport violates international humanitarian law and could amount to war crimes if investigations determine that civilians or civilian objects were deliberately targeted or that the attacks were indiscriminate or disproportionate.
The group called for an immediate end to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, independent and transparent investigations, accountability for those responsible, stronger protection for civilians, unhindered humanitarian access, protection of water sources, and guarantees for the safe movement of civilian vehicles.
