El Obeid, July 27 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army announced on Sunday that it had secured control of the Omdurman–El Obeid highway following battles with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The announcement came a day after the army stated that it had recaptured the areas of Bara, Jabra al-Sheikh, and Um Sayala during a military operation in North Kordofan State.
In a statement, army spokesman Nabil Abdallah said the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied forces had also captured the areas of Umm Qurfa and Jereikh after what he described as successful operations that inflicted heavy losses on the RSF in personnel and equipment.
“With this victory, your valiant forces have secured control of the Omdurman–El Obeid export route,” the statement said.
The highway linking Omdurman with North Kordofan had remained under RSF control since the outbreak of the war in April 2023.
