A six-year-old child was killed and his brother seriously injured after a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) patrol opened fire on a civilian vehicle in the Saq al-Jamal area, west of Al-Nuhud in West Kordofan State, according to medical sources.
The source at Al-Nuhud Hospital told Darfur24 that Nader Shehab, 6, died at the scene from a gunshot wound, while his brother underwent surgery on Wednesday after sustaining critical injuries.
The sources said the vehicle was carrying civilians traveling from East Darfur State to El Obeid in North Kordofan when it came under fire from RSF personnel.
Attacks on civilian vehicles traveling between Darfur and Kordofan have become increasingly common in recent months, particularly at RSF checkpoints on routes leading to areas controlled by the Sudanese army, according to residents and travelers.
