Since it was established in April 2016, Darfur24 Network has been dedicated to covering news and events in the Darfur region. Guided by an editorial policy that adheres to the professional and ethical standards of international journalism, it has earned the trust of a wide audience both within Sudan and abroad.
Its website and online platforms have become the leading source for coverage of Darfur and its surrounding regions, in addition to its coverage of other regions.
The network has over 300,000 followers on social media and more than 13 million monthly views.
Since the outbreak of the April 15th war, the network has been subjected to relentless targeting campaigns due to its journalistic coverage. The most recent of these was a coordinated and simultaneous campaign launched by media outlets affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Liberation Army /Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nour faction. The network’s coverage focuses on the Darfur greater region, which is under the control of these two armed groups(RSF, SLA-Anur ). For over a decade since its founding, Darfur24 journalists have been subjected to a continuous series of violations against press freedom, including imprisonment, arbitrary arrests, security summoning by security apparatus and other forms of harassment.
These actions were perpetrated by the security forces during the era of ousted President al-Bashir, with the aim of restricting media freedom and obstructing independent journalistic coverage.
However, they emerged victorious, strengthened by their belief that “a free press endures, and tyrants perish.”
Now, these two armed military forces have launched a renewed war against the newspaper as part of the campaign against the press freedom, intimidating and terrorizing journalists to suppress information, news, and the truth from the public. This has even escalated to incitement to murder by some members of the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdulwahid Nur.
Darfur24 Network categorically rejects all forms of intimidation and security threats aimed at halting its journalistic coverage of events in Darfur and preventing it from informing the public about the true situation on the ground.
This is a principled stance that the network adheres to and will not deviate from, whatever the cost.
However, the network takes the threats issued by the two military forces very seriously and holds the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Nur responsible for any harm that befalls its journalists and its network of correspondents that spread throughout Darfur, while it appeals to all defenders of press freedoms in particular, local, regional and international civil society organizations, opinion writers and thought leaders to express their solidarity with all Sudanese press in the face of the fierce attack it is subjected to by armed groups spread throughout Sudan.
