Addis Ababa, June 04 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese Communist Party has urged the exclusion of both sides of Sudan’s war and their political allies from any future political process, arguing that the country’s democratic transition should be led by the forces of the December 2018 Revolution and grassroots civilian groups.
In a memorandum submitted to the five-member international mechanism—comprising the UN, African Union, European Union, Arab League, and IGAD—the party said the ongoing consultations in Addis Ababa are exploratory discussions rather than negotiations on power-sharing or political settlements.
The party maintained that participants in the meetings do not represent all Sudanese constituencies and lack a mandate to speak on behalf of the Sudanese people. It called for a broad civilian-led process involving workers, farmers, displaced persons, refugees, resistance committees, women, youth, and professional groups.
The Communist Party also stressed that any political process must be preceded by a ceasefire, humanitarian access, and accountability for crimes committed during the conflict. It criticized the selection of participants in the Addis Ababa consultations and called on the five-member mechanism to remain neutral and clarify the objectives of the talks.
While expressing readiness to engage in dialogue with most political and civil actors, the party said it would not participate alongside the former ruling National Congress Party, its allies, or forces aligned with the warring parties.
