Bilel, May 24 (Darfur24)

Two men were killed in separate violent incidents last week in Bilel locality, South Darfur State, amid growing concerns over worsening insecurity and armed violence in the area.

A source from the family of Yaqub Abbas told Darfur24 on Sunday that a military unit affiliated with one of the Rapid Support Forces outposts stopped Abbas while he was returning from work in the Al-Qasharat area of Bilel.

According to the source, Abbas told the RSF personnel during questioning that he worked in the peeling industry. Moments later, after he had moved a short distance away, one of the armed personnel opened fire on him, killing him instantly.

In a separate incident, another resident, identified as Hassan Tama, was shot dead after armed men stormed his house at night in Bilel.

Residents told Darfur24 that the gunmen attempted to loot the house, but Tama resisted them, forcing the attackers to flee. During his pursuit of the assailants, he was shot and later died while being transported to Nyala Hospital.

They say Bilel locality, east of Nyala, has witnessed growing security chaos in recent weeks due to the widespread proliferation of weapons and increasing activities by armed gangs involved in robberies and intimidation.

The incidents come despite an ongoing security campaign launched by the Rapid Support Forces in the locality.
