Nyala, April 21 (Darfur24)
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced on Monday the resumption of measles vaccination campaigns in South Darfur State amid a growing outbreak of the disease across the Darfur region.
In a statement posted on its official platforms, UNICEF announced that measles and rubella vaccination campaigns have resumed in 15 areas of South Darfur, targeting children aged between nine months and 14 years.
The agency added that it aims to reach more than 1.4 million children in the state, in coordination with health partners.
The renewed campaign comes as infections and deaths linked to measles continue to rise in northern, eastern, and southern parts of Darfur.
UNICEF said the vaccination effort will be expanded in the coming weeks to include North and East Darfur states.
