Al-Junaynah, April 4 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Central Darfur have released five professors from Zalingei University after more than ten days in detention, following mounting pressure from officials and community leaders.
Sources told Darfur24 that the release came after sustained interventions demanding the professors’ immediate freedom.
The professors were arrested on March 25 on accusations of spying for the Sudanese army, according to the sources.
They were held in Zalingei Central Prison, amid reports that their families faced pressure and were asked to pay money in exchange for their release.
The RSF, which controls most of the Darfur region, has continued to detain civilians and activists on allegations of collaboration with the army.
