Nyala, March 24 (Darfur24)
A man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nyala on Sunday evening, amid a surge in crime and insecurity during the Eid al-Fitr period.
A family source told Darfur24 that two armed men on a motorcycle attempted to rob Mohammed Saleh Shugar, known as “Jarnouk,” in the Al-Jir neighborhood. When he resisted, one of the attackers shot him dead before fleeing.
The incident was reported to local police and a nearby Rapid Support Forces (RSF) checkpoint.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man, Ahmed Abdel Rahman, was stabbed in the abdomen inside Nyala’s main market on the first day of Eid.
Residents also reported robberies by armed gangs in areas such as Wadi Barli, as well as injuries caused by stray bullets despite official warnings against celebratory gunfire.
The incidents highlight a growing state of lawlessness in Nyala during the holiday period, with repeated security breaches raising concerns among residents.
Nyala, which the TASIS alliance has designated as the seat of its parallel government, is witnessing a renewed surge in violence by unidentified gunmen following a period of relative calm.
