Al-Daein, March 16 (Darfur24)

A young man was shot dead by an armed assailant in the Al-Daein market in East Darfur State on Sunday, eyewitnesses said on Monday.

Witnesses told Darfur24 that the attacker fired three shots from a Kalashnikov rifle at the victim in the middle of the market, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene. The Federal Police, affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces, were unable to apprehend the suspect.

Local sources said the killing may be linked to drug trafficking activities, noting that the area where the incident occurred is known as a gathering point for drug dealers who trade in narcotics within the market.

In a separate incident, eyewitnesses reported that another young man was killed last Saturday in the mobile phone market in Al-Daein under mysterious circumstances, while security authorities have yet to identify or arrest the perpetrator.

Meanwhile, in the Abu Matariq area, the capital of Bahr al-Arab locality, an unidentified gunman shot a motorcyclist with a Kalashnikov rifle, leaving him seriously injured. He was later transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Several areas in East Darfur have recently witnessed rising security disturbances as Eid al-Fitr approaches, with armed groups reportedly active inside Al-Daein city and in nearby localities, raising concerns among residents about public safety.
