El Obeid, February 24 (Darfur24)

A drone strike targeted Kordofan University in El Obeid on Monday, causing extensive damage to several campus facilities without reports of casualties among staff.

A university employee told Darfur24 that the drone struck the university compound in El Obeid, located in North Kordofan.

The attack resulted in the destruction of the Kordofan Grand Hall and Ghubush Hall, affiliated with the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, and the university cafeteria.

The source said the scale of destruction was significant, leading to major material losses affecting educational infrastructure. Several homes surrounding the campus also sustained varying levels of damage due to the force of the explosions.

Residents reported loud and unusual blast sounds that triggered fear and panic among civilians, particularly as the strike occurred late at night.

Kordofan University is considered one of the region’s leading higher education institutions, drawing students from across Sudan, particularly from Kordofan and Darfur.

The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of civilian institutions and the continuity of education amid ongoing hostilities in the region.
