Zalingei, February 03 (Darfur24)

At least nine Rapid Support Forces (RSF) personnel were killed and others wounded on Monday in a drone strike that targeted the Kilo (2) area east of Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State, according to local and medical sources.

A medical source told Darfur24 that the strike hit a building in the area and that the wounded were transferred to several health facilities inside Zalingei for treatment.

An eyewitness told Darfur24 that the drone flew repeatedly over the area before firing two missiles, with explosions heard across the city. He added that the drone continued circling for more than half an hour after the attack.

The witness also reported seeing thick columns of smoke rising from the eastern part of the city, along with heightened movement of wounded individuals being transported into Zalingei.

Local sources said the targeted building was being used to house RSF personnel, noting that the same area was struck in a similar drone attack late last year.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been gripped by intense fighting between the Sudanese army and its allies on one side and the Rapid Support Forces on the other, with drones increasingly used in attacks across areas controlled by both parties.
