Dilling, January 28 (Darfur24)
A child was killed and several civilians were injured in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan State, on Monday, following indiscriminate shelling by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as celebratory gunfire after Sudanese army forces entered the city.
Sources in Dilling told Darfur24 that at least five people sustained moderate to serious injuries due to shelling and bombardment carried out by the RSF and SPLM-N, which coincided with residents’ celebrations of the armed forces’ arrival in the city.
The sources confirmed the death of child Abdullah Youssef Qaidoum in the Al-Marafet neighborhood, and the injury of three-year-old Al-Rashid Younis in the Al-Malikiyah neighborhood. They added that eight other people were injured during the shelling.
On Monday, the Sudanese Armed Forces lifted the siege on Dilling following fierce battles on the city’s eastern front. This is expected to allow the resumption of transportation of goods and essential supplies into Dilling, facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid, and restore civilian movement between the city and other parts of Sudan after a prolonged period of isolation that severely affected living and humanitarian conditions.
