Nyala, January 13 (Darfur24)

Eyewitnesses reported that armed outlaws detonated hand grenades in Nyala’s large market and the popular market over the weekend, killing a girl and injuring several civilians.

Witnesses told Darfur24 that a fight broke out on Sunday inside the mobile phone section of the popular market, during which some participants threw two hand grenades. The explosions killed a girl and injured multiple civilians, who were transferred to Nyala Teaching Hospital and nearby clinics for treatment.

Other witnesses said the blasts were accompanied by chaos and widespread looting of shops in the market area.

In a related incident, sources told Darfur24 that three individuals stole money from a merchant in the large Nyala market on Saturday. While being chased by residents, the suspects threw a hand grenade, causing injuries before escaping.

Nyala has recently witnessed a rise in similar attacks, with hand grenades increasingly used during disputes and robberies in markets, resulting in civilian casualties.
