Nyala, January 03 (Darfur24)
Drones believed to belong to the Sudanese army struck multiple locations in Nyala, South Darfur, on Friday, including a fuel facility and areas near the airport, according to local and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) sources.
One source within RSF, who requested anonymity, told Darfur24 that a suicide drone targeted a fuel storage facility used for electricity generation by the Urban Water Authority. The site is located in the Airport neighborhood northeast of Nyala. The strike caused thick columns of smoke to rise into the air but did not result in any casualties, according to the source.
He said the fuel stored at the site is used to operate generators supplying several water stations in the city.
The same source also reported separate drone strikes targeting the railway crossing on the Nyala–El Fasher road, as well as Nyala Airport east of the city, at different times. No further details were provided regarding damage or casualties.
An eyewitness in Nyala told Darfur24 that thick plumes of smoke remained visible over the city for an extended period, while additional explosions were heard from the northern parts of the city.
Cities and towns across Darfur under RSF control have been subjected to near-daily drone attacks, resulting in hundreds of civilian and military casualties. The most recent reported strike targeted a convoy belonging to Hamid Ali Abu Bakr, the security adviser to the RSF commander, in the Al-Firdous area near Zalingei in Central Darfur last Thursday.
