Khartoum, January 03 (Darfur24)

The head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and commander of the Sudanese army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said the doors of national reconciliation remain open to all forces willing to join what he described as “the voice of the nation,” welcoming participation in a comprehensive national project.

Al-Burhan made the remarks in a speech delivered from inside the Presidential Palace in central Khartoum on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s independence on Thursday.

He praised the sacrifices of the armed forces, other regular forces, and their supporters. He commended political forces that he said have continued to stand by the Sudanese people and the military.

Al-Burhan stated that the state would work to establish a country based on citizenship and fulfill the Sudanese people’s aspirations for freedom, peace, and justice, emphasizing that the military institution stands with the people and their revolution at all stages.

“Whoever betrays his country and sells it out will not prevail,” he said, adding that those who rely on what he described as “illusions from abroad” would not achieve their goals inside Sudan.

He further stated that the ongoing war has united the Sudanese people, pledging that the Presidential Palace would once again witness celebrations of the people’s victory, as it did in 1885 and 1956—two defining moments in the country’s history. He called for national unity to overcome the current challenges.
