The General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Tuesday that 35 new cases of measles have been recorded across the state.
According to the statement, 16 cases were registered in Nyala North locality, while 19 cases were reported in Nyala Municipality.
The administration said that 26 patients were admitted to the isolation center at Nyala Teaching Hospital, while nine patients were received at the Italian Emergency Hospital.
It added that the total number of measles cases recorded since the beginning of 2025 has risen to 2,209, with 19 deaths reported so far. Of the fatalities, 11 deaths occurred in Nyala North locality and four deaths in Nyala Municipality.
The distribution of cases across localities shows the highest number in East Al Jabal, with 1,106 cases, followed by Nyala Municipality (564 cases) and Nyala North locality (516 cases).
Other affected areas include Balil (13 cases), Kass (9 cases), Al Salam (9 cases), Mershing (25 cases), Adal Fursan (9 cases), Quraida (4 cases), Damso (19 cases), Rahad Al Bardi (13 cases), Baram (one case), and Al Sunta (one case).
Health authorities warned of the continued spread of measles and stressed the importance of vaccination campaigns, early detection, and community awareness to limit further infections, particularly among children.
