Nyala, December 31 (Darfur24)
Residents of Abu Ajoura town in Al Salam locality, South Darfur State, have complained of a surge in armed robberies along the road linking the area to the state capital, Nyala.
Residents told Darfur24 that armed groups, including recruits affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), have repeatedly looted passenger vehicles in the Thuluj area along the Abu Ajoura–Nyala road.
They said the attacks appear to be systematic, particularly targeting vehicles belonging to traders traveling to and from weekly markets, locally known as “Durur” traders, coming from Wali and Abu Ajoura.
According to several traders, at least six armed robbery incidents were recorded this month alone in the Thuluj area.
Residents added that the Rapid Support Forces later established a checkpoint in the area following the increase in looting incidents. However, they noted that the checkpoint operates only during daytime hours, while most robberies take place around sunset.
South Darfur State has witnessed a broader rise in armed robberies in recent weeks, with similar incidents reported in several towns and neighborhoods, including parts of North Nyala.
