Kordofan, December 17 (Darfur24)

The primary school year began on Tuesday in the city of Al-Nuhud, West Kordofan State, after a hiatus of more than 6 months.

Sources told Darfur24 that some teachers have proposed an initiative to resume the school year in the city of Al-Nuhud in select primary schools as a first phase.

She noted that the initiative began on December 10 with teachers holding a meeting inside the local government buildings, which set the opening date.

The teachers called on families via mosque loudspeakers on Monday to bring students to schools, signaling the start of the school year.

Residents reported that the first day saw a high turnout of female students, while only a few male students showed up. However, some parents refused to risk sending their children to school due to security concerns.

Since the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city of Al-Nuhud at the beginning of May, security has deteriorated in the city, with many of its residents fleeing to the surrounding villages and areas.
