El Fasher, December 10 (Darfur24)
Health sources confirmed on Tuesday that cholera deaths have increased in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.
A medical worker at the Saudi Specialized Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology said the escalating cholera cases are endangering the lives of patients and wounded people stranded in the city. According to the source, the hospital records at least ten deaths a day, most of them caused by cholera.
The source added that in November, after the Rapid Support Forces seized control of El Fasher, the city saw around 500 deaths among the sick and wounded who remained trapped, including victims of injuries as well as those who succumbed to the cholera outbreak.
The rise in deaths was attributed to severe shortages of medical supplies, particularly intravenous solutions, in addition to deteriorating environmental sanitation.
Earlier this week, several doctors told Darfur24 that more than 1,500 patients and injured people in El Fasher are living in catastrophic conditions and urgently need medical assistance.
