North Kordofan, November 17 (Darfur24)
A military source revealed to Darfur24 on Monday that Abu Aqla Kikel, commander of the Sudan Shield Forces, was injured in a drone strike in the Um Sayala area of North Kordofan State.
According to the source, Sudan Shield Forces, which fights alongside the Sudanese army, entered Umm Sayala earlier in the day before they were encircled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a swift flanking maneuver.
The RSF later announced in a statement that they had regained full control of the area.
The military source said Kikel sustained injuries to his shoulder and hand. The Sudan Shield Forces have neither confirmed nor denied the incident.
Kikel defected from the RSF in October 2024 and later joined army-aligned forces in operations to retake Gezira State. His forces currently operate across several fronts in the Kordofan region.
