Nyala, November 15 (Darfur24)

Two traders were reportedly kidnapped by unidentified armed men in Nyala’s market, the capital of South Darfur State.

Witnesses told Darfur24 that Issa Kujin and Mansour Daki Bella, both livestock traders, were on their way home to District 18 carrying sums of money when they were intercepted by armed men in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

“The gunmen kidnapped them at gunpoint after a heated argument erupted between the traders and the armed group,” one witness said.

Other eyewitnesses noted that the perpetrators had been monitoring the traders since early Tuesday morning and followed them after they closed their shops.

Cases of kidnappings by unidentified armed groups have resurfaced in Nyala after several months of relative calm. In October, traders Abdul Wahab Mahmoud and Aziz Mahdi were abducted from the Al-Junaynah bus station market west of Nyala. The kidnappers later contacted Mahmoud’s family and demanded a ransom for his release.
