El Obeid, November 15 (Darfur24)

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Saturday morning regained control of Um Dam Haj Ahmed and Kazqil in North Kordofan State after renewed clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Military sources told Darfur24 that the army has been conducting a large-scale offensive since Friday, supported by warplanes and drones. The operation targeted RSF positions in both areas before ground forces advanced and secured full control early Saturday.

SAF had withdrawn from Um Dam Haj Ahmed on October 26, while Kazqil saw intense battles last September, ending with the army’s retreat under sustained RSF attacks.

Um Dam Haj Ahmed and Kazqil are considered strategic locations due to their proximity to key supply routes linking Darfur and Kordofan, making them central to the current military contest.

In recent weeks, areas north and west of Al-Abyad have witnessed an escalation in fighting between the two sides, amid worsening humanitarian conditions marked by new waves of displacement, disrupted basic services, and deteriorating living conditions for civilians.
