El-Obeid, October 31 (Darfur24)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that around 2,600 people were displaced from North Kordofan State on October 28 and 29 due to escalating insecurity and deteriorating conditions in the area.

IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) teams recently reported that the majority of those displaced, about 2,250 people, fled from El-Obeid in Sheikan locality, while roughly 350 others were displaced from Al-Rahad town in Al-Rahad locality.

The IOM noted that the displaced families have been scattered across several states, including White Nile, Khartoum, and Al-Jazirah, where they are facing severe humanitarian challenges and a lack of basic services.

This new wave of displacement comes amid an accelerating pattern of population movement across North Kordofan in recent weeks. Field reports indicate that the localities of Bara, Um Dam Haj Ahmed, Al-Rahad, and Um Ruwaba have all witnessed repeated displacement incidents triggered by rising security tensions and armed attacks.

According to IOM estimates, these incidents collectively displaced about 34,520 people between October 26 and 29 alone.

The developments underscore the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Kordofan region, which has faced months of escalating armed conflict and widespread insecurity.
