Port Sudan, October 29 (Darfur24)

The leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), Minni Arko Minawi, said that collective mistakes and failures by all parties contributed to the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. He urged that these errors be urgently addressed to protect the country from further collapse.

In a speech on Tuesday, Minawi stated that the coming phase requires mobilization both inside and outside Sudan to confront what he described as “the machinery of genocide and ethnic cleansing.”

“El Fasher witnessed massacres and brutal genocides committed by the Rapid Support Forces,” Minawi said. “Sometimes, we bow before storms, but before grudges, we do not break.”

He emphasized that the people of Darfur must defeat what he called the “tool exploited by forces seeking to occupy”—referring to the RSF—to preserve Sudan’s unity. “This is an existential battle that does not end with the fall of a single city,” he added.

Minawi noted that the next phase will focus on addressing the worsening displacement and refugee crisis, which he said was deliberately caused by the RSF. He called for the documentation of crimes to ensure accountability and prevent impunity, as well as mobilizing support to meet the urgent needs of displaced people.
