El Fasher, October 9 (Darfur24)

At least 13 civilians were killed and 20 others injured on Wednesday when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled an internally displaced persons camp (IDP) in the Abu Shouk neighborhood of El Fasher, North Darfur.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that the RSF resumed artillery attacks on residential areas, striking an IDP camp at the Old Mosque in Abu Shouk. The shelling caused multiple civilian casualties, including among those who had recently fled violence in other parts of the city.

More than 100 families had sought refuge inside the Old Mosque after escaping their homes, while many others fled camps in the Al-Bashir neighborhood following a recent RSF incursion.

Adam Haroun, a sheikh at the camp, said the initial toll from the attack was 13 dead and 20 injured, including civilians who were near a water pump close to the mosque.

He added that some families removed the bodies of their relatives immediately after the attack, while several unidentified bodies remained at the site.

Health officials in the emergency department confirmed that dozens of wounded civilians were brought in on Wednesday afternoon.

Darfur24 observed approximately eight bodies still inside the Old Mosque at the time of reporting, awaiting removal.
