Al-Geneina, September 27 (Darfur24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Friday that they had repelled a large-scale attack by the Sudanese army and the joint force on several fronts west of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.

The RSF claimed that the attacking forces had suffered “heavy losses in lives and equipment.”

In a statement, the RSF said it had thwarted the offensive through “preparedness and discipline,” alleging that hundreds of army personnel were killed.

The statement also reported the seizure of more than 170 combat vehicles and large quantities of weapons and ammunition, including artillery and rocket launchers.

The RSF added that its forces remain stationed in their positions and are continuing to advance toward new fronts as part of what it described as a plan to “purge the country of terrorist remnants and continue to establish a new Sudan.”

Meanwhile, field sources told Darfur24 that the army and the joint force managed to penetrate the center of the Umm Sumaima area on Friday after fierce clashes, forcing RSF units to retreat toward Al-Khawi. The sources added that the RSF launched a counterattack later that evening and regained control of Umm Sumaima.

Videos circulating on social media purportedly show RSF fighters seizing combat vehicles and capturing army personnel. The Sudanese Armed Forces have not yet issued an official statement regarding these developments.
