Deling, September 16 (Darfur24)
Health authorities in South Kordofan have confirmed an outbreak of watery diarrhea in Deling locality, with 16 cases and one death reported so far.
A health official told Darfur24 that the first case appeared on September 3, though no laboratory sample was taken as the patient had begun treatment before the epidemiological team’s arrival.
Most infections have been traced to villages surrounding Deling, including Al-Qardoud and Hajar Al-Jawad, as well as areas under the control of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), complicating containment efforts.
In response, local authorities set up an emergency health committee comprising health officials, administrators, and security forces to coordinate prevention measures.
Health teams have been dispatched to disinfect public facilities, distribute chlorine for water purification, and conduct awareness campaigns. Isolation centers have also been set up, while rapid response teams continue efforts to contain the disease.
