Kafut, September 10 (Darfur24)
Health authorities in Kafut, a town in El Fasher, North Darfur State, reported on Tuesday four cholera-related deaths and 14 new cases.
A local health source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Darfur24 that these are the first confirmed cholera cases in the town, raising concerns about a potential outbreak amid ongoing security challenges that have worsened the health situation.
Ahmed Youssef, a community leader in Kafut, questioned the official figures, saying the town has recently seen a sharp rise in watery diarrhea cases, which he claimed authorities have been concealing.
He called on local health officials to engage youth in awareness campaigns to help contain the epidemic.
Kafut, 55 km northwest of El Fasher, is currently under the control of the Rapid Support Forces and hosts hundreds of families who have fled El Fasher.
